Every day visits*
From Moose, Goose, and Orb Weaver
All seized by Haiku

"Why moose and goose?" you may ask. Back on 2/04/13 Pirate wrote a haiku with an elk in it, and I responded with
one with a moose and then included him every day. A few days later in comments Mystic asked "Where's the goose?"
So I started including her with this post on 2/07. A week later on the 14th, Mark Readfern
asked for and received a spider. The rest is history.

*Well, most days, anyway. Grant me a bit of poetic license.

Five Sentence Fiction

DEVOTION

It was an awkward moment when Gil ran into Marci at the pharmacy on a cold December evening.

Their last night together - what had it been, four years, five maybe - had not ended well.

But she seemed genuinely happy to see him; and, damn, she looked good.

She looked so inviting, even eager, as she invited him to her apartment to catch up, "for old time's sake."

Gil took off his gloves, looked pointedly at the ring finger of his left hand, sighed wistfully, and said, "Thanks, but I need to get home."

Five Sentence Fiction - Zombie

ZOMBIE

Gil's wife will be home from her 2nd shift job in a few minutes, so he has to hurry.

He's creeped out by sneaking through the grave yard this late on a cloudy night, but it's the quickest way home from Marci's apartment.

He knows why there's a spiky metal fence around the cemetery - people are dying to get in.

Whoa - who is that ragged looking character shambling toward him?

And what are those things climbing up out of the graves?

Mellow Yellow Monday

Not so mellow.

In a restaurant parking lot, we spotted this 99-er car used as a mobile protest billboard.

Mad Kane's Limerick Off of 9/16

Trying Your Hand (at Limericks)

A card-sharp was trying his hand
At bridge playing - thought it was grand.
Till he got in a jam

And was set in his slam.
The finesse didn't work out as planned

Theme:  BACK TO THE FUTURE WITH THE HONEYMOONERS.   No that's not some sort of glaring error.  After the 1960 success of the Flintstones - which was the Honeymooners, reset in cartoon creationist pre-history - the same formula was applied two years later to a space-age toon family, giving us our reveal, which will be revealed at the appropriate moment.

17A. Leader for whom Houston's airport is named : GEORGE (JETSON) BUSH.  Poppy or W?

24A. "The Chimpanzees of Gombe" writer : JANE (JETSON) GOODALL A British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and author.

34A. "Superfudge" novelist : JUDY (JETSON) BLUME.  Writer of children's books and racy adult novels.

49A. Pro Football Hall of Famer nicknamed "Crazylegs" : ELROY (JETSON) HIRSCH.  As an amateur, he was a football running back and receiver with the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan.  As a pro, he played for the Chicago Rockets of the old All-America Football Conference, and then with the L.A. Rams.  He is a member of both the College Football and Pro Football Halls of Fame.

And the reveal, since now is the appropriate moment. 58A. TV series that first aired 9/23/1962 whose family shares first names with 17-, 24-, 34- and 49-Across : THE JETSONS. And here is the THEME theme.

Hi gang, It's JazzBumpa, reunited with Gareth.  Once upon a time, three of my consecutive blogging dates corresponded with three consecutive publications of his puzzles - a coincidence beyond all probability, since my blogging dates were irregular.   I always enjoy Gareth's puzzles.  Didn't we have one just last Wednesday?  I thought that would be a near miss.  Let's see what he has for us this time.

Five Sentence Fiction

Just what I needed - a new meme.  Well, I will try it out once, anyway.

AWKWARD

Late in his senior year, Bob's high school buddies took him to a place where women traded love for cash.

"But," he protested, I have a girlfriend, Marci."

"Marci is an amateur; find out what a pro can do," they said.

Bob climbed the back steps, resolute in his new purpose.

Then he made eye contact with the man coming down the steps, Marci's father.

Shadow Shot Sunday / Mellow Yellow Monday

Shadow Shot

Central Catholic High School, Toledo Ohio - South Entrance

My lovely wife took this picture yesterday while I was inside practicing with the alumni band.

The event was the CCHS Music Hall of Fame banquet.

Mellow Yellow Shot

Still Feelin' The Music

The alumni band performed the Alma Mater and the CCHS Victory march, which you might recognize as the Notre Dame fight song.  Yes, we too are the Fighting Irish!

That's the yellow brass bell of my euphonium, just right of center, sticking up behind the head of the lady in black, playing the clarinet.

Another Mellow Yellow Shot

Jerry DePrisco, CCHS Music Director, 1955 -1974

The Alumni Glee Club performed their signature tune, May the Lord Bless You and Keep You.

Each of the eight HoF indictees, from classes of 1950(!) through the stellar 1983 group performed a song.  Some seriously word-class talent was on display.  Todd Fournier (83) is touring with Frankie Valli as one of The Four Seasons, Jill Bonczak (83) has been member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago for 18 years, and pianist Larry Fuller (83) has performed everywhere.

It was an awesome night, and for me a very emotional experience.
